CHillPR Welcomes A New Addition

As part of its expansion, the CHillPR team is pleased to welcome Marquita Hill as our latest Account Coordinator.  Marquita has lived and traveled all over the world as a "military brat" visiting Germany, Spain, Italy, Michigan, Virginia, and many more.  She began her matriculation through college at Georgia Southern University during the “Players Ball” period, where she developed event planning skills and a passion for philanthropy with strong ties to her military roots.  Marquita then moved on to Mercer University to focus on the hospitality and health care industry, where she utilized 15 years of experience in the Girls Scouts to empower groups of young women to discover the outdoors, philanthropy, and healthy living.

Marquita has successfully created events for many non profit organizations, such as Girl Scouts of America, Pebblebrook High School JRTOC, United Church of Christ, Army Community Service and many more. As the lead to our non profit clients, Marquita brings the inspiration of Frederick Douglass to CHill Public Relations "Without struggle, there is no progress."

HeroBox Is In the Running for People Mag's All-Star Contest!
VOTE FOR RYAN HOUSELY IN PEOPLE MAGAZINE'S All-Stars Among Us Contest!

Voting is underway at www.peopleallstars.com in the campaign honoring community leaders across the U.S. at the 2009 Major League All-Star game. Three finalists are from Georgia in the campaign sponsored by People magazine, Major League Baseball and the Atlanta Braves.

One Peachtree City man who launched a website to take requests for care packages from troops in Iraq and Afghanistan is in the running for People Magazine's “All Stars Among Us” contest. Ryan Housely is the driving force behind HeroBox a non-profit that started simply by Ryan sending care packages to his brother, US Army Specialist Evan Housely.  Ryan put up a simple web page to note special requests from Evan and other soldiers in his brother’s unit.  One unit has now turned into 2500 soldiers requesting custom care packages from HeroBox while deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

While his work has already earned him recognition locally, it is now getting some national attention. Housely's efforts have earned him a top spot in People magazine's All Stars Among Us contest, which honors "individuals who have gone above and beyond to serve their community," according to People's Web site.

HeroBox, is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the troops by sending custom care packages to deployed men and women overseas that are customized to each person’s specific request.    With 52,000 U.S. Troops currently deployed to Afghanistan and the number rising to 68,000 by the end of the year, soldiers are still in need of feeling support and love from American civilians they’re protecting.

Voting started June 8th at www.peopleallstars.com and continues until June 24th. Finalists are categorized by Major League Baseball teams. There are three finalists representing each team and the top vote getter from each team will attend and be honored at the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. One person will be featured in People magazine. Ryan's profile can be found by clicking on the Atlanta Braves logo on the contest's website.

Cool Facebook Addons
Social media has become the new paradigm shift of public relations. Don't get caught not using the most popular sites, or you will be out of touch, outdated, and not "in the know". I have been on Facebook for almost a decade now, so the "tricks" most people are gawking over are not knew. Here are some of the cooler things you can do on Facebook as business branding tools.

1. Flickr2Facebook - upload your photos from Flickr to Facebook in one application. Great for keeping all of your photos consistent!

2. Schedule Facebook Messages - create messages to send to friends that will go out at a later time with Sendible. Great for new product launches, meetings, a warm hello, out-of-office reminders, and more. Sendible also works with other social media sites, email, text message, etc.

3. Know when friends secretly delete you or block you - Awesome tracking tool X-Friends keeps you in the know when you're losing friends on Facebook. (Facebook Application)

4. Sync Facebook friends to Outlook -
OutSync
is a free Windows application that syncs photos of your Facebook friends with matching contacts in Microsoft Outlook.
